Where we've been training, what we've done, what we created!

Background

Talks started back in 2011 about crossing the Vatnajokul by Snowkite. The project evolved over the years and started to take shape. Key members putting in some serious time and energy to move it forward.

Equipment was the major project, prototyping, designing, testing a piece of equipment that would allow a wheelchair user to independently snowkite and become an integral part of the Team.

Kite training of paramount importance, using every opportunity on land, sea and snow to gather the necessary skills to be at a level capable of undertaking this mamoth expedition.

Finally, developing a Team suitable of working together in this hostile environment.

4People6Legs - 1st attempt April 2014

An epic 3 days to get on the glacier from the Snaefell hut, at times, not enough wind, then too much, negotiating a varied terrain, ravines, lava beds to finally arrive on the glacier with a panoramic 360 degree view of just SNOW! An eerie moment, made us feel so small and a picture of isolation we'd dreamt of from the very beginnning.

Unfortunatley, this feeling of jubilation didn't last as Sean started to feel unwell and before long was a shivering wreck in the corner of the tent, a bladder infection taking control requiring immediate rescue services.

Unfortunately under stormy weather conditions this was a difficult prospect being so remote and over a 100kms from civilisation. 8-9 hours later and after three attempts to reach us from different sides of the glacier, we were all relieved to see the headlights of two balloon tired rescue vehicles through the tent walls. Scooped up and a crazy drive back with no visability topped off the days excitement.

24hours in hospital, IV atibiotics and all was well. Subsequent examinations and tests showing it was just one of them things for Sean and nothing to worry about - although we'll be taking a few course of Antibiotics with us this time - just incase!
